Grilled Baked Brie with a homemade blackberry jam is an excellent holiday party appetizer! Use fresh or frozen blackberries for one of the best appetizer recipes.
1tablespoonAged balsamic(Optional for drizzle finish)
Blackberry Jam
6ouncesblackberries(See notes on fresh versus frozen)
2tablespoonscane sugar
1teaspoonfresh lemon juice
½teaspoonlemon zest
Instructions
For the Blackberry Jam
Prep: In a small saucepan over medium heat combine blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Bring to a simmer and stir frequently to avoid scorching the berries. Simmer for roughly 15-20 minutes, until the berries soften, then use a fork to roughly mash the berries.
Cool: Remove the jam from heat and place in a small bowl and place into the refrigerator to let cool and thicken up to 1 hour (or 1 day ahead of cooking the brie).
For the Grilled Brie
Grill: Prepare your grill for direct grilling, targeting 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the brie wheel with the rind side down on the cast iron pan (or other grill safe pan). Place the blackberry jam on top of the brie. Place the pan on the grill grates over direct heat and grill for roughly 7 minutes, or until the brie just starts melting and the blackberry jam is simmering.
Serve: Remove from heat and sprinkle with mint leaves. For optional toppings and more flavor add some Maldon finishing salt and a light drizzle of AGED balsamic vinegar. Serve with toasted bread or crackers as part of a charcuterie and cheese tray.
Notes
Fresh blackberriesduring peak season in North America (late spring and through early fall) will be rich with a lot of natural sugars. So you may not need added sugar in the recipe. Taste a berry firstto see how sweet it is before making the berry jam.
Frozen blackberries are just as delicious. They are flash frozen immediately after harvest to lock in that natural sweet flavor. If using frozen blackberries you can just add them in the same portions. Just add the frozen berries directly into the saucepan (no need to thaw).
