Background

This past Christmas my mom gave me one. A super teeny tiny miniature cast iron skillet. It is small. Really small. Like 3.5-inches wide small.

It’s just like this Lodge miniature skillet.

We teased her endlessly about the pan. “Mom, seriously, what the heck are you supposed to cook in a teeny tiny cast iron skillet?” I asked.

She just laughed. But she never actually answered my question.

Was this a joke?

Well the cute little pan has grown on me and, after using it for a few months, I can now testify that this is a pretty genius little gadget. Besides it being small (perfect for any minimalist out there) and therefore taking up very little space in your kitchen, it has a number of incredible uses. Here are 17 that come to mind. You can check out our roundup of our favorite cast iron skillet recipes for more ideas.

  1. We just started using our cast iron skillet more and now I want like 10 of these for dishes! Especially the fondue. YUM!

  2. Haha, so cute. Love the necklace idea. I think you’re on to something. I like using mine for desserts when entertaining. People go crazy when their dessert is served in one of those.

    1. Right?!?! Dessert is so impressive when served in one of these little pans! (And so good!!)
Bonus is if everyone gets their own nobody has to share ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Haha! I’ve always wanted a teeny tiny skillet! Such a fun round up ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Hahaha! I am loving this post, Mary. What a fabulous albeit heavy statement necklace ๐Ÿ˜‰ The little Lego minifig guys are the perfect touch to all of the photos. Brilliant!

  5. I really love the idea of using them as ornaments. That’s just darling. I have a stick of butter ornament that I purchased at Paula Deen’s restaurant in Savannah, Georgia. I think a butter and skillet tree might just have to happen next Christmas. =)

  6. Love this post Mary! What a great roundup of uses! Love your stylin’ outfit too! I have a couple mini cast iron skillets, but they’re square. I recently made some cheesy enchilada dip in them, that way each guest gets their own serving – No double dipping worries!

  7. My husband is OBSESSED with cast-iron skillets. We have a little one like this and it is amazing how much use we got out of it. I haven’t thought of the tiny pizza or the cookie yet though. Great list!

    1. He should check out my Dad’s business – he’s just getting started and appreciates any interest! https://www.etsy.com/shop/NOMOMilling

  8. Hahahahaha! I never would have thought to use is as a christmas ornament or jewelry, but somehow it works! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love this, and now I need to buy at least three!

  9. Ohhh I could kiss you for this. I was debating whether or not to throw mine out! This has fixed that! Thank you!
